He said, “I haven’t joined the pipe and slippers club yet – I do enjoy a night out with the boys and I still play football" .

“But, of course, if you don’t calm down when you’re 66 there’s something tragically wrong.

“But there’s no retirement on the horizon for me. In ten years from now, I’d dearly love to still be singing and be very much involved in music.

“And I’ll have two rambunctious boys who’ll keep me lively.”

The one of the most selling artists of all time is set to board a new North American tour along with the American female singer Stevie Nicks that will go on later this spring.

Rod who has sold over 100 million records international will kick off his “Heart & Soul Tour “on March 20 at the Bank Atlantic Center in Fort Lauderdale, FL and the duo will tour more than a dozen American and Canadian cities during a time span of four weeks.

Rod Stewart and Stevie will make major stops on March 26 at Madison Square Garden in New York, NY; March 30 at TD Garden in Boston, MD; and April 9 at United middle in Chicago, IL.

While some of their other venues will be Tampa, Atlanta, Uncasville, Philadelphia, Detroit, Phoenix and Los Angles. The duo will make abroad stops at Bell Centre in Montreal, QC on April 1 and at Air Canada Centre in Toronto, ON, Canada on April 2.

The family explored the sights of La Colle Sur Loup, which was a seigneury in the 16th century and formerly a medieval community and strong hold of Guadelet.
There's plenty of sights to look, the town still retains it's ancient castle as well as a 12th century priory that has now been converted into a restaurant, quaint shopping streets and old narrow alleyways leading to shady little squares.
Stewart and Lancaster, 39, married on June 16 2007 aboard a yacht moored in the Italian port of Portofino, two years after their son was born.

The ageing rocker has seven children and has been married three times in total, previously to Alana Hamilton and Rachel Hunter.
The former gravedigger and Brentwood FC apprentice, discovered by Ronnie Wood on a train station, has come a long way since those early days, enjoying a slew of hits over his 30 year career.
Stewart has sold over 130million records worldwide and is one of the best selling British artists of all time.

This year the arrangers have managed to attract Rod Stewart, who enjoyed his earliest successes as the lead singer of various bands and as a solo artist in the late 1960s. He started out, however, not as a musician, but as a footballer for FC Brentford. It was only in the early ‘60s that he began making music. Stewart was drawn to British folk music and joined the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) movement. A little later, however, he became fascinated by black rhythm and blues and learnt to play the harmonica while honing his guitar skills. Stewart’s first single "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl" was released in 1964. Following various hit and miss attempts in a number of small bands, in 1969 Stewart decided to go it alone again. Faces guitarist Ronnie Wood has said that the band "haven't ruled out" getting original frontman Rod Stewart to play with them again.
The reuniting band have recruited Simply Red's Mick Hucknall as a replacement for Stewart, and are set to play the Sussex Vintage At Goodwood festival (August 13-15).
Wood told NME that Stewart wasn't on board because of schedule clashes, but claimed they were on good terms and he may join them in the future. Stewart in fact told fans at his O2 Arena gig last week (May 29) to give the Simply Red man "a chance" if they went to see the band live.
"We haven't ruled Rod out," he said. "It's just that his schedule is totally crossing over exactly when we wanted him. We've got Mick Hucknall because his voice is just like Rod's was in the '70s."
He added: "The door's not closed to Rod, but we're carrying on because it's worth it."
The guitarist said that the band may tour in January and hoped to play Glastonbury and other festivals in 2011.

Watching the swaying, singing audience at the O2 arena, it struck me that Rod Stewart would make the greatest wedding singer of all time. He’s a genial entertainer with a great set of pipes who gives the audience exactly what they want: the hits, some standards, a bit of soul, disco, rock ’n’ roll, romantic ballads and arms-linked singalongs. There’s even cheeky banter and interval time built in for toilet breaks.

“Is there anyone here from Essex?” Stewart asks, with a wink, before strapping 6ft-plus English model Penny Lancaster appears on stage in a red mini- dress, grinning and dancing rather gormlessly to his lively version of the Sam Cook classic Twisting the Night Away. “That’s the wife,” quips Stewart. “I actually told her to stay in the van.” And where else but at a wedding or a Rod Stewart concert could you expect to see a 65-year-old man with his jacket off, shirt tails hanging out, shaking his bony behind beneath a glitterball and asking if we think he’s sexy?

After 30 years as a world- beating superstar, Stewart knows how to put on a show. There is nothing cool about him any more, if there ever was.

The stage is so bright and clean, it is like a Sixties set from American Bandstand blown up for The X Factor, and the versatile band are constrained in tight suits, with backing vocalists in matching sexy mini-dresses. It looks and feels like a cheesy review show, not dissimilar to the kind of thing Cliff Richard puts on, although there is a time those two would have been at the opposite ends of the rock spectrum. The thing that raises the bar is Stewart himself. His hoarse, soulful voice has always been a distinctive instrument: there’s sensitivity in his delivery and there’s a way that he closes his eyes and delicately sways when he sings that suggests he still gets lost in these songs.

And what songs. His voice always sounded old; now when he sings Handbags and Gladrags he really could be the disappointed grandfather reprimanding his wayward granddaughter. After all these years, and all these hits, and all the albums of cover versions, there’s never a dull or self-indulgent moment. The 20,000-plus audience belt out his classics with him, and when he leads them through a mass choral version of Sailing, it is impossible not to be swept overboard.

The Faces Set to Reunite Without Rod Stewart

The Faces will no longer wait for Rod Stewart to reunite, announcing on their website yesterday that three of the original members of the legendary British band — guitarist Ronnie Wood, drummer Kenney Jones and keyboardist Ian McLagan — will team up with Simply Red singer Mick Hucknall and Sex Pistols bassist Glen Matlock. The group is set to perform as the Faces at this year's Vintage at Goodwood festival in England on August 13th. "It's exciting to be on this path again and I hope that the Faces fans are excited as we are," Wood said in a statement. "I'm just really looking forward to seeing them this summer — bring it on!"

As Rolling Stone previously reported, the Faces, without Stewart but with Hucknall and former Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman, reunited in October 2009 to perform at London's Royal Albert Hall. (Wyman, who will be replaced by Matlock, filled in for Faces bassist Ronnie Lane, who passed away in 1997.) In 2008, a Faces reunion with Stewart nearly took place: the group rehearsed to see if they "still remember[ed] the songs." But Stewart quickly quashed reunion talk by saying there would be no Faces concerts in 2009 as he was busy with other commitments. After the Royal Albert Hall gig, Wood, Jones and McLagan all expressed a desire to keep the reunion going, with or without Stewart.

"The timing is just right, we can feel the excitement and we cannot wait to be back on stage playing to a live audience again," Jones said in a statement. "It's going to be lots of fun." In an interview with the BBC, Wood also revealed that the band is in talks to bring special guests out on stage, including Noel Gallagher, Slash and the Black Crowes’ Chris Robinson. "There's loads of people that have said, 'Please, let us sing with you.'" Wood said. The newly reunited crew is currently drawing up their schedule for a tour.

If you are going to get a copy of Rod Stewart' new CD, Soulbook, and I highly recommend you do, please make sure you read his liner notes on the sleeve before you listen to even the very first cut. He makes such a heartfelt introduction to the album.
Rod says: “This is the album I have waited my whole life to record. These are the songs that I’ve danced to, made love to, cried to and yes, even fell on the floor to as a young man in the infancy of my career. These songs and singers were the oxygen that fueled my passion to sing…”
Those songs may have also given us the passion but only a lucky few from among us ended up singing them on the stage. Otherwise though, what Stewart says truly holds true for most of us who also grew up during that time. That was when the beautiful, strangely new sound of Motown and other soul labels woke us up to the pop appeal of Black America’s music.
Rod has done the oldies before and I do consider his Great American Songbook series landmark recordings. Who would have thought it would be the Maggie May rocker who would put a new spin to those classics? And he did. Wonderfully so! Rod could have gone on doing the same for a lifetime. The treasure trove of American hits has no limits. But he has instead chosen to give us something new to enjoy. It is soul and he is singing the songs we love to remember.
I think Rod missed out on having something by The Supremes, think Baby Love or Aretha Franklin, Chain Of Fools would have been perfect. But from the way the CD plays, he certainly did very nicely in choosing e tunes he could do justice to. I believe that is what counts most when doing albums like this one. Don’t touch the song if you cannot do it well.

Let It Be Me, a bit of country from The Everly Brothers as a duet with Jennifer Hudson who sounds magnificent; Rainy Night in Georgia by Brook Benton; What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted by Jimmy Ruffin; Love Train, the No. 1 seller from The O’Jays; You’ve Really Got A Hold On Me by The Miracles; Wonderful World by Sam Cook; If You Don’t Know Me By Now by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes; and Just My Imagination by The Temptations.
I have always thought Michael McDonald, another rocker, remember, the guy was a Doobie Brother, did the best remake of this type of songs in his Motown series. Vocally and arrangement by arrangement, his version still ranks high, but Rod’s Soulbook has a lushness of tone that is almost magnetic. This, I believe, is what took the songs out of the nostalgia circuit and brought the album into the present time.
I thought only one guy could have thought of this approach, Clive Davis, who was responsible for Rod’s Great American Songbook. Besides, the label is J Records, and that is Davis’. Clive remains big boss of J, but what do you know, listed as producers are Steve Jordan and Steve Tyrell. I checked out Jordan and it turns out he is a famous producer, drummer plus other things who has worked with Keith Richards, John Mayer and other big names. Tyrell, who was in town last year, is a well known producer and vocalist. With these two at the helm I am not surprised Soulbook turned out so well.
But of course, this CD is really about Rod Stewart. The guy is a superb interpreter and he so loves what he does, you can almost hear the smile in his heart for every song.

With a catalogue spanning 40 years, Rod Stewart catalogue has shown he has no problem baring his soul, or wearing his heart on his sleeve, as in the ballads “Have I Told You Lately” and “You’re In My Heart.”
The spiky haired Englishman has covered essentials such as Sam Cooke’s “Twistin’ the Night Away” and the Isley Brothers’ “This Old Heart of Mine” in a stretch of time where he has managed to merge his more rock oriented persona with a more soulful sensibility. The combination has led him to create the highly successful “Songbook” series of albums that feature him wrapping his rasp around “It Had to Be You” and “They Can’t Take That Away from Me,” pulling

e and not only reaching a new audience, but reinventing himself in the process.
“Soulbook” (J Records) is his latest album of covers. Stewart’s impeccable taste in material is only matched by the genuine love he has for these melodies that he shamelessly exhibits on the first few a capella moments of the opening track, the Four Tops’ “It’s the Same Old Song.” It hardly is, as the track’s tastefully restrained arrangements serve as a comfortable backdrop against which Stewart can sing these songs without sounding self conscious or overwrought.
And while his version of Jackie Wilson’s “(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher” sounds somewhat flat, he more than makes up for it on luminous versions of Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes’ “If You Don’t Know Me By Now” and Brook Benton’s “Rainy Night in Georgia.”
To make the affair even more impressive, Stewart shares the microphone with some of soul’s best: Smokey Robinson (“Tracks of My Tears”) and Stevie Wonder (“My Cherie Amour”).
But Stewart isn’t interested in creating duets with only the legends, as he offers a sweet and sultry version of “Let It Be Me” with Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson and a smooth reworking of the Stylistics’ “You Make Me Feel Brand New” with Mary J. Blige.
His affection for these songs is most obvious on his gorgeous reading of the Temptations’ “Just My Imagination,” a song that ironically fits his latest persona of a man who is far from being caught up in a daydream.
Hall, Oates hit it
Daryl Hall and John Oates hit their first No. 1 single in 1977 with “Rich Girl,” but the duo’s breakthrough album, “Voices” didn’t happen until 1980.
That album spun off four Top 40 hits that included “How Does It Feel To Be Back,” a cover of the Righteous Brothers’ “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin,” the infectious “You Make My Dreams” and the runaway chart-topper “Kiss On My List.”
The duo’s musical story is presented in a collection of rarities, demos and million elling songs on “Do What You Want Be What You Are: The Music of Daryl Hall and John Oates” (RCA/Legacy), an ambitious four baisc box set. Every No. 1 hit is here including “Private Eyes,” “I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do)” and “Out of Touch” as well as every Top 10 hit, among which “Say It Isn’t So,” “One on One” and “Family Man” are highlights.

When Jason Blake declared “tonight’s the night," he wasn’t talking about a Rod Stewart song.
The Maple Leafs’ left winger hopes a new assignment some might call it a demotion will snap him and the team out of a scoring funk. Blake, who has just one assist in three games, will be with physical centre John Mitchell and winger Jamal Mayers when Toronto takes on the Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins at the Air Canada Centre.

Superstars Harbor Beach hosts Salute

HARBOR BEACH —In three years for the seventh time , a Salute to the Superstars concert was conducted in Harbor Beach. The concert gave tribute to three of this country’s legendary performers Shania Twain, Cher, and Rod Stewart.
Bringing life to Shania Twain, Kelly Smith gave an brillent tribute to the county singer. When one reads Smith’s credentials, it is no wonder that she is able to portray Twain. Her credits include working with Roy Clark, Wayne Newton, Jim Stafford and others.

The second outstanding performance was given by Mr. Art Reed. He performed a stellar tribute to the great Rod Stewart. Whether singing or talking to the audience, Reed never fell out of character. His voice and accent was remarkably close to the legendary Stewart.
Last, but certainly not least, was a tribute to Cher. The salute to her was specially noteworthy because it was also performed by Kelly Smith. Totally changed in character and vocal pattern, Smith sang several of Cher’s hits from the 1970s to present day. From the long black hair to the gravel voice, Kelly Smith was ‘right on’ in this spectacular impersonation of this renown story.
Cher/Kelly took time out after the concert to mingle with the audience. She shook hands, posed for individual footages and talked to anyone who stayed afterward. She was an obvious hit with Steve McHugh (above right), one of several people to stay after the show to have a photograph taken with her.
According to Al Kleinknecht, this concert series began 3-4 years ago.
“It started by daydreaming,” he said.
While attending a local wedding, he was highly impressed by a Frank Sinatra impersonator. Kleinknecht, head of the Harbor Beach Maritime Festival Committee, thought the use of impersonators may be a good way to generate funds for the summer festival.
After researching tribute performers, Kleinknecht gathered a pair of volunteers. And, as they say on television, “the rest is history.”
Of course, it wasn’t quite that simple. But after a lot of hard work, it did turn out to be remunerative.
Five concerts have been held to benefit the Maritime Festival.
Two were conducted to benefit American soldiers who have ties with the Harbor Beach area.
And, according to Kleinknecht, over $10,000 has been raised.

The surviving members of the pair will get together for the gig at London's Royal Albert Hall although legendary frontman Rod Stewart will not be joining them.
Ronnie Wood, Ian McLagen and Kenny Jones will play in aid of the Performing Rights Society's Music Members' Benevolent Fund with guest vocalists including Simply Red's Mick Hucknall, former Spice Girl Mel C and Kiki Dee joining them.
Paying tribute to former bass player Ronnie Lane, who passed away in 1997, Ronnie Wood said: "This will be so special for us, staging a reunion for such a greatful and prestigious event. Sadly Ronnie Lane can't be with us, but I'm sure he will be there in spirit, God bless him."
Although it is not known why Rod is not performing with the pair who originally split in 1975 rumours of a reunion have followed the band for some time. Late last year Rod Stewart confirmed the band would reunite for a tour, but he then fell out with Ronnie, supposedly over how much the guitarist would be paid to perform at the shows.

A very breakable and aged-looking woman riding home on the light rail train from Rod Stewart's all famous show Tuesday at Target Center said she has been going to the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer's concerts since she was a young woman. And she added that she and Stewart are the same age, both 64.

"He's aged," she said sadly. "He doesn't move like he used to."

But then she smiled with a hint of wicked nostalgia. "But he moves a lot much better than I do," she said.

During his 90 minute show, Stewart sweated through three costume changes, strutted and twitched, wriggled a still lean fanny that could breath in shrieks and proved his late 40 something audience (the average age, possibly) that they were going to get a good show.

And they did. The crowd turning out for Stewart's concerts know all the songs and sing along to most of the lyrics. Stewart's music has been part of their lives and has underline memories. The fans come primed for a love fest.

And it's artfully managed, with nostalgic psychedelic visuals projected on a biggest screen, a trio of Motown like backup singers, a voluptuous blond female sax player and a backup band of top tier rocker talent.

Stewart's instantly recognized singing voice has diminished power, and it was obvious during Tuesday's agreement that he rations it. The backup performers pushed the songs, sometimes obliterating Stewart's trademark rasp, then backing off for a well known construction. You got the feeling the person operating the sound mixing equipment was following a script.
No matter. This wasn't an interpretive performance by the man once considered rock's best interpretive singer. This was a celebratory review of an era.

The songs, starting with "Some Guys Have All the Luck," included "It's a Heartache," "Forever Young," "Downtown Train," "The First Cut Is the Deepest," "Rhythm of My Heart," "Tonight's the Night," "Having a Party," "Have I Told You Lately," "You're in my Heart" and many others including an encore of "Maggie May," with whole sections sung a cappella by the conference.

Perhaps inevitably, not all the memories arouse by the songs were wonderful. To this listener, for agency, Stewart's upbeat appearance of "Have You Ever Seen the Rain?" brought back memories of the Vietnam War. Give me the Creedence Clearwater Revival account.

Of course, Stewart didn't sing all the hits; officially, there are more than 60 of them. I heard a few conference members yearning for "You Wear It Well" or "Infatuation." You can't have them all.

But Stewart did kick soccer balls,not problem at all lofting them high in the air more than halfway across the Target Center floor. What legs.

Rain won’t put a damper on Saturday night’s Rod Stewart presntation in City Park.
Organizer Deborah J. Cameron says she’s not disturbed about the weather the prognosis calls for the rain to let up tonight, allowing a dry spell in time for to tomorrow night’s presntation.
While the group continue into their third day setting up the stage, Cameron says to an audience member, it would look like it’s already finished.
Cameron has been busy meeting all city demands for the presntation, but at the same time had to work to accomplish Stewart’s agreement rider, which included 48 FIFA soccer balls to be kicked off stage into the audience.
Gates open Saturday at 5 p.m. for the show, opening act The Kin take the stage at 6:30 p.m. and Stewart will be performing at 8 p.m. Tickets are still available from Ticketmaster or at the gate.
According to Don Backmeyer, facilities administrator for the city, City Park will be closed to the public at 4 p.m. Saturday and will reopen Sunday morning. The Brigadier Walkway will be the only part of the park open.

Artistically lazy is the critical stone that’s been slung at Rod Stewart repeatedly since the mid-1970s.
Any one who heard the British rock star’s early solo albums, his not mention to this albums groundbreaking work with The Jeff Beck Group and Faces, knows full well how superb the soulful, raspy-piped Stewart can be when he’s at his best.
But since the mind 70s, with old exceptional moment, someone critics would tell that you’re the Rock and Roll Hall has not been best that he’s half-heartedly drifted from one album to the next, shifting styles as it suited the marketplace. Indeed, Stewart’s been a folky, a blues rocker, a disco artist, a champion of adult contemporary soft rock and, most recently, a singer of easy listening jazz standards.
I don’t thing that I am famous on current trends, ‘Stewart says over the phone as he promotes his latest tour, which will focus on his rock and roll hits.
“I established a quite true love music all of them and I am gifted in so much as I can do. The Great American Songbook, I can do Hot Legs, I can do what I want. I’ve been gifted with a voice.”
“I’m not setting out to make better versions all of them than what [the soul legends] have recorded,” he says. “Just Rod Stewart versions. Simple as that.”
Rod Stewart is not only to challenge himself artistically and the writer of such classic songs as Maggie May and Stay With Me admits as much when asked why he hasn’t recorded a s ong of his own in over a decade.
“I’ve always found it really hard work writing songs, although I think I was pretty good at it when it was finished,” Stewart says. “Being a bit of a lazy sod as I am, I didn’t find it easy. After American Songbook came out, I’ve glad doing these concept albums. That’s not to say I won’t put pen to paper again. Before I’m on the wrong side of the grass, I definitely will.”

Ageism has always pissed off Aftermath immensely. There's something awfully arrogant and defeating about shamming older cats for still wanting to rock out, even if they are edging dangerously close to seventy years of age, as Rod Stewart is. No one begrudges B.B. King or Leonard Cohen for still shilling their songs, each sitting at eighty-three and seventy-four respectively.

True it is, that to most people "The Thrill Is Gone" and "Bird on the Wire" hold much more weight than say, "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?" The point is that Mr. Stewart can still captivate and thrill an all-ages crowd, neverminding what the cynics say. Imagine telling a writer that he's told to exercise his craft, or telling a painter that they must stop painting because they are too old to be relevant or expressive.

Rod Stewart is pure entertainer, and makes pretenders like Robbie Williams seem go colorless imitations. He hasn’t released a decent album in many years , he somehow manages to get by on point, carefully-chosen covers, and that voice. With a cracking band and a trio of sassy soulful, female backing singers, he had the crowd fully controlled for the entire show. There was no room for ‘Reason to Believe’ or ‘Have I Told You Lately’.

Still, we got ‘You Wear It Well’, ‘This Ole Heart of Mine’, ‘Twisting The Night Away’ and his take on Tom Waits’ ‘Downtown Train’, while the encores inevitably included ‘Maggie May’ and ‘Sailing’.
